just another monkey wandering the earth, wondering what is going on...these are the personal musings of an entrepreneur, photographer and digital explorer.
Here's a sneek peak at a new series I'm working on tentatively names 'Color Collision'. The premise being a series of static shots of a scene where I take multiple exposures and combine them into a single image. The shot above is the culmination of about 25 shots taken from 400 during a single sitting. I looked for people wearing red moving left to right, and people wearing blue walking right to left. I like the juxtaposition and curiosity that the technique poses and have started looking for other topics that I can extend to. Some tidy up work left to do on this compositional experiment but enjoying where it's going, despite the meticulous photoshop hours involved.
One of the most spellbinding sites I've ever seen. A near perfect mirrored lake. I took this HDR panorama using 27 separate exposures, stitched in Photoshop and adjusted in Lightroom. Best viewed by maximizing the view in Gigapan and exploring with the mouse.
Anthony Howe is an artist living on Orcas Island here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Recently had the opportunity to explore his outdoor gallery and was enchanted as I shot footage with my Canon 5D. Decided to put together a small music short to Bon Ivers 'Flume' and the result is below.
Well Lady Gaga, happens to apparently be not only a bovine wearing songstress but a bonafide electrical engineer. Well designer at least. She leant her brand / input to the new Polaroid GL10 Instant Mobile Printer which finally arrived today after much anticipation. Long story short. The GL10 gives you the ability to print from a mobile phone, wirelessly over bluetooth to a lightweight, battery powered printer that you can throw in your bag and forget about. Imagine leaving one on the table at the bar / restaurant / your next party, etc. and folks throwing their images at it from their phones which are dutifully spat out in a matter of seconds.
The one snag....*Seemingly* no iPhone Support.
BUT! As with almost everything there's a work around. After much hunting around and not much in a way of answers found I finally came across this perfect tutorial from 'Unleashed' on the iPhone Forums boards. You will need to jailbreak your phone to 4.3.3 (a perfectly legal and legitimate thing by the way for those who think it's illegal) but simplly follow the instructions carefully, purchase the $9.99 Celeste app and Bob's your uncle. Perfect 4"x3" prints in seconds on your iphone.
At just $169.99 on Amazon and only 66c/photo this is the perfect gadget to sling into your bag or gift for the techie in your life.
I'm planning on taking a few shots from my site at http://www.adamsheppard.org buying some neodymiumfridge magnets and plastering the fridge.
Hope this helped those of you struggling to figure out how to get this working with your iPhone and please give a Like to my fan page at http://facebook.com/adamsheppardphotography
I tend to be selective about what I post to my blog partly because I like to share the more trivial stuff on facebook instead and partly because I like quick and easy ways of doing stuff and squarespace which I use as a blogging platform is a bit slow to write entries with.
I may have found a solution in Scribefire that integrates into Google Chrome as a little extension and easily allows me to publish to any blog.
Quite humbled that my photography portfolio site http://www.adamsheppard.org was selected by the popular Webdesigner Depot as one of the best photography flash sites on the web!
Adam Sheppard’s portfolio has some very unique animated navigation menus on his portfolio, allowing us to interact with the design a little more than others. When you’re not purposely viewing any photos a wonderfully transitioned slide-show is playing in the background. The portfolio area itself is explored via numbers, you never know what you’re going to get which builds up the suspense making you want to view more!
As someone who often tends to cringe at the thought of writing a document I can appreciate what the guys of Ommwriter are trying to do. Make the experience pleasant.
Found some great images of what I believe is a Russian Ekranoplan by igor113 on Livejournal Created a synth to try and visualize it a little better. There are a good number of images that matched. Check it out! Adam.
My good friend Francisco Hernandez of built for man launched his fall / winter 2010 collection this week. He asked me to come along and shoot a few snaps. Francisco hosted my first photography show last year and was more than happy to help him show off his amazing work.

and this weekend I set up shop with a roll of paper and some masking tape down at the fremont fair for valentines day.
The weather was pretty good with an occasional glimpse of sun, the people were happy and friendly and I had a ton of fun meeting, talking and capturing anyone who walked by.
This video short features several timelapses I took over the course of two shoots at the popular walkers destination of Greenlake in Seattle.
I had the idea after listening to the rhythm in Bon Iver's 'Lump Sum' while walking the loop. The process involved mounting my Canon 5D MkII on a tripod, picking a starting destination and shooting a single 5 second exposure. I'd then walk 10 steps and repeat the process. Over and over, and over again. A total of just under 1000 frames taking about 5 hours to shoot. A single frame of film is usually comprised of 24 frames per second but I slowed the final sequence down to 6fps to match the music.
From experience with previous shoots I wanted to avoid people blipping in and out of the timelapse so I used a Neutral Density Filter (basically dark glass) that would allow me to keep the shutter open for a longer exposure in broad daylight resulting in the blurring effect. The second sequence half way through was shot by setting up the tripod statically behind a tree and taking a shot every 5 seconds. I had my camera hooked up to my laptop and hung out and read a book for about 45 minutes while it grabbed the footage and saved it directly to the hard drive.
I adjusted all the images in Lightroom before exporting into Jpeg format and assembling as an image sequence using Quicktime. The final video interspersing live action, the time lapse clips and stills was compiled using Final Cut Pro on my MacBook Pro.
I wanted to try out some of the video techniques I've been practicing with the Canon 5D Mk II and really liked the way Jill and her co-workers interacted with one another and the public at Pike Place Market's Pappardelles.
They were great sports as I spent a couple of hours trying different angles amongst the crowds. As I was shooting I decided to focus on Jill as the primary subject and tell a story through her actions of love lost. The accompanying music is 'The Wolves' from Bon Iver's, For Emma.

For the last year or so my business partner and I worked out of Muse Coffee on Queen Anne. It's a little hidden away place but on 10th Ave. W but it attracts a really great crowd of people who work, relax or stop in on their way to some place else.
Queen Anne News did a little article on the owner Brent and the folks who work there. They also slapped my mug on the front, presumably in a bid to increase sales....
You can read the article here and definitely try and stop by Muse and support a great local business!
